Today I rode to Smorgasburg DUMBO, which is a gathering of food vendors in the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) area. There is a lovely little park, and you can see the East River, and you can see two bridges on top of you (the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge) and the Williamsburg Bridge not too much further down.

The ride was tough, especially coming back since I was getting a little tired and heatstruck. (It doesn't help that I went out drinking last night and had two whole cocktails, hah.) There were some pretty bad climbs both on the way there and on the way back. (Well, when I say pretty bad climbs I mean, like, 3%, 4%. I suck at climbing. I am heavy and I have weak legs.) Also, the Brooklyn Bridge was closed for some reason and so traffic through downtown Brooklyn was unreal.

I would like to get good enough so that I do some longer-distance cycling (to take me outside Brooklyn, at least), but UGH CLIMBING.

Anyway, the food was worth it! I had a banh mi from Regal Vegan (their "faux gras" is super tasty!) and an aloo paratha from Paratha Alley and a passionfruit lemonade soda from Bolivian Llama Party and everything was so good. I was not surprised that they had a ton of vegetarian options (a food market that caters to hipsters had better have some decent vegetarian options) but it is kind of nice to feel like there's a lot of stuff worth coming back for that I didn't get a chance to try.

I think that riding six miles and then having a passionfruit lemonade soda is a LOT BETTER than riding six miles and then putting your bike on your shoulder to haul it up two flights of stairs.
