21/2/13 09:48Have just had the horrifying realization that my fiction reading went WAY down... at the same time I upgraded my phone. My commute is entirely by bus, so there's nothing stopping me from just spending the whole 40 minutes staring at the internet.
I think I am also a little burned out on reading, though. It's a bit similar to that feeling you get when you're very hungry but nauseated by the thought of any specific kind of food.
That said I am in the midst of The Flame Alphabet by Ben Marcus. After a lifetime of thinking I didn't like to read horror, I think there's a sub-sub-genre of books that are starting to grow on me of very dark literary stories that descend (without much gore, or much supernatural stuff) to absolute nails-on-chalkboard things-crawling-on-your-skin body horror. (cf. Yoko Ogawa.)
Today I woke up at 3:30 and couldn't manage to get back to sleep. SO. The rest of the day should be fun!
