Hurricane update
28/8/11 10:55We are chilling on our laptops and baking bread.
Which is to say: we still have internet and electricity (never went down!). The eye passed over us maybe an hour ago; it's blustery outside but there seems to be very little damage in the immediate area. I'm hearing about flooding in the low-lying parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan, but overall it seems on the low end of what they were predicting.
Which is not to say that the coverage was an overreaction.
Sometimes the coverage reflects a stronger storm than what actually turns up. Sometimes it reflects a weaker storm than what actually turns up. It's weather, and that means you don't know what it's going to do until it actually does it.
We're lucky in that the power lines here are underground, and weren't going to go out because of wind (though flooding could've knocked out the electricity.)
