Miscellany
4/8/11 14:52- Cracked the screen of my Kindle. It just ... slipped out of my hands as I was waiting for my bus. (I am very annoyed. This would not have happened if my bus had not been 20 minutes late.) They want $85 to replace it. (Yup, I've seen stories of the company replacing them for free. That will not be happening.) I think I am going to rationalize it just because my commute is that annoying and my Kindle makes it that much better.
+ I had a Complicated Situation involving a long-awaited family vacation that could only be scheduled by me going straight to the airport from work Saturday (which I could not rearrange, because it's Yom Kippur, and lots of people are not available to work). This was put in jeopardy by my transfer and the potential rearrangement of Saturday schedules! But now I think it has been resolved.
+ The library got a new photocopier after ours being broken for MONTHS.
+ I am not caring about reading YA books! It is a bit liberating. Recently read: Megan Abbott, The End of Everything (so good! Also, saved Queenpin from the discard pile so I have that to read even without my Kindle); Fritz Lieber, Conjure Wife (hi 1950s attitudes about race and gender! Still, half points for not being as bad as Faulkner!).
+ I am getting a voucher from my union for new glasses and an eye exam! Still ridiculously expensive because I get the extra-light lenses. But, new glasses!
