Miscellany
23/4/10 08:431. Japan may support bullet train makers for US bids.
I am in love with Japanese trains.
No -- I am in love with trains in general, if you do them right. In Japan they're about to start a new line that takes you from Narita Airport to downtown Tokyo (~45 miles) in 38 MINUTES! You can't get from Union Square to Canarsie (~10 miles, and that's a direct route on the subway) in that length of time.
I just really really hope that something significant is going to come from the governmental push towards high-speed rail. Getting on a shinkansen is approximately one million times easier than getting on a plane flight, and I know that in a country as spread out as the US it's harder than in Japan, but still, can we at least get LA-San Francisco and an eastern corridor route that's better than Acela?
2. I'm excited to be previewed by Fuse #8, but even more excited that Elizabeth Hand has a YA novel coming out about teens cast in Twelfth Night!
3. Sometimes I get through the first few days after a long trip okay, and then my body clock freaks out on me and goes, "Wait, WHAT?"
I slept from 12:00-2:30 last night and then from 10:30-12:30 in the morning. I still feel a bit lousy and will probably get through the day on large amounts of caffeine.
4. Library budgets are still looking grim, grim, grim. At this point it would be a relief to know anything at all, because I am stubborn and don't want to start applying for new jobs until I hear something definite.
