Well, the car thing.... actually might end up working out.

Because they gave me an estimate of $5000, and that's about $1500 more than the blue book value.

Now, here's the thing: if I weren't moving to NYC, this would be a horrible horrible thing. Squid is a great car. She's worth at least twice her blue book value. There's no way I could find a car that nice again with the insurance money, and no way I could scrape up the money to get a new car.

But if insurance paid to get the car fixed, then I'd have to worry about waiting for it to get fixed, and selling it, with the attendant difficulties of selling a car that has been in a collision. If all I have to worry about is filling out the insurance claim and towing the car to the salvage yard, that's a lot easier.

So. I'm actually a little dismayed and bewildered that I can total my car and not have to suffer any real consequences (except that no one will ever insure me), but this is okay.

Also, obviously the universe does not want me to drive a car. Ever.

I am okay with this, universe.
