I said that I was going to laugh at people when gas was $3.00.
Here I am with gas at $3.00, with a 40-mile round trip commute, driving around in my 7-year-old minivan that gets mileage comparable to a Hummer. Well, the small Hummer, anyway.
I am so moving downtown if I get moved up to full-time.
Still--gas isn't painfully expensive. From the way people talk about it, you'd think it would slowly drain away every penny I have, and...it's not so bad. It's not so expensive that it's really going to force people to change their behavior. The grocery store is 2 miles away, and I would drive there rather than bike there, simply because it's right by where you get on the interstate, and the traffic gets frightening. On one level I wish that it were expensive enough to force people to get smart about their energy consumption, but selfishly, I'm glad it's not as bad as I feared, even at $3.00
