19/3/06 21:30So I went to see V for Vendetta, because (a) it was playing at the Varsity, so I needn't sacrifice an entire day attempting to see it (I'm looking at you, Serenity...) and (b) it looked to be a solid, stylish action movie that attempted intelligence. Also because people seemed to have very intense, intelligent opinions on it, and I was interested in getting to have an actual opinion myself.
It was a solid, stylish action movie with politics that I had no idea what to make of. I like it much better after reading online commentary about it, especially
matociquala's. I very much would like to read the graphic novel, since I think that I would like it better, but it's not in at the library... maybe I'll try the public library. A genuine comics fan works there, which seems relatively rare. There were parts that were very awesome, and parts that were kind of squicky, and it seems that the squicky parts are mostly additions to the movie.
Also, I thought that I had been spoiled for the big plot twist, and it turned out that I hadn't been, and it's very strange to watch a movie waiting for the big reveal and them realizing that it wasn't the one I was waiting for.
