Not a good day.
15/3/06 10:33Realizing I was going to be late, I sprinted on my bike to the bus stop, leaving it chained there. (Please let it still be there when I come back for it). I made my bus, made my way to the library for an interview--realized that I needed to print things out and didn't have my library card. Panicked. Asked at reference desk, where they told me that yes, I really did need my library card, no exceptions. Panicked some more. (My printer at home has gone kaput). I have two interviews scheduled today, one in 25 minutes, and absolutely can't get them done without the interview schedule, consent form, and directions to the other branch I need to get to.
Finally I manage to talk to someone who makes an exception for me, so I go to print things out, only to realize I don't have enough change. Luckily, I stop panicking long enough to realize that the coin box also has a slot for bills. (Unfortunately, I only have $1 on me, but the worst that comes of that is that I get overcharged for taking money from an ATM not from my bank).
So it looks as if things are going to be okay now.
But this day would have been so much easier if I actually had a car. I'd have been able to run back home and get my library card. I'd have been able to run to campus for free printing.
And yesterday, I went down to the DMV and argued with the DMV people who said that I couldn't get a fleet-only license, and therefore I can't get a license at all without insurance, and therefore I can't drive at all unless I get a car, which is the stupidest thing that I have ever heard.
