Hey,
nonamecity!
linguaphiles is posting songs from the RENT Japanese soundtrack! I had Seasons of Love, which is like the best thing
ever because it cranks up the sentimentality as only the Japanese can, but the others are new to me. (BTW, the links are a little screwed up, you'll have to chop 'em in half).
ETA: The Japanese singers *definitely* do not match my image of the characters as well as, say, the original cast. Joanne does; Mimi is spot-on and gorgeous; Roger, good enough; Mark, no, not at all. I just figured out why--Mark sounds like the adorable apathetic loser who was in my Classical Japanese Lit class one year. Ichinose-kun.* I curse my lack of listening comprehension for lyrics shouted-sung over heavy guitars; I think that I will have to import the soundtrack just to figure out the lyrics, never mind find out what on earth they did with La Vie Boheme.
昨日も朝もないーー今日。
他には道はない。No day but today.
Okay, just one more thing.
I know I'm the last person who should ever be making fun of people's accents--I accept that I'm *never* going to have a decent Japanese accent--but it really does sound like they're singing "Lent" in a few places in "Rent," which is really kind of hilarious.
*If not for Mori-san, because she was nice, and Ichinose-kun, because he was cute, the class would've been unbearable. Alas, he was--ah--one of the rare cases where I find someone cute while finding his personality entirely repulsive. And he wouldn't help me with my homework, either.
