I am now in my ninth working hour--mind you, at least three of those were spent in blissful silent reading in a nearly-deserted lab.

Despite what you hear from tech support people, I've found the people here to be neither stupid nor hostile; communication is much better in person than over the phone, quite naturally. They even are sympathetic when my stock answer to every single question is, "Hurrr. Let me see if I can figure it out."

I do usually manage to figure it out. Now I know that we have double-sided scanning (which is very nice) on one computer, and how to split and splice together PDFs. At leat 2/3 of the people who've been in on this shift have been profs scanning in PDFs for their students, and once I had done that twice or thrice, I figured out most of the intricacies. So I feel at least a little bit competent now.

I said before that I don't have the upper-body strength for crutches; today, my chest and arms feel as if they've been bulldozed. I can barely lift my arms to type (and yet I do it anyway, hah). The weekend will be spent recuperating at home, as much as is possible, I think--and costume preparations may be delayed yet again, though I hope not.
