Finished Final Fantasy X last night, a game I've owned for over 13 months. I'm slow, all right? Well, I must say it was pretty; much of its emotional impact was dissolved because it took me over 13 months to finish it (only a bit over 50 hours of actual game time, I'll admit), but I would like to play X-2. At times it almost, almost attained emotional depth; did a better job of it than VII or VII, at any rate.

Still contemplating whether to trunk "Where Mercy Dwells." It's been everywhere, and it won't get sold as is, but I don't feel like it's worth the trouble to rewrite. May as well concentrate on the newer stories (WMD's already a year and a half old).

Bookishness

I knew that Mary Gentle's new book, 1610: A Sundial in a Grave had been published in the UK, and I hoped to pick up the UK edition here in Canada, but I hadn't seen it in stores until now; and despite admonitions not to spend money on things, I bought it. Her last book floored me, and isn't that the best title in the world? Also, it's 593 big pages long, so I think I'll get some value for my money.

Sword of Maiden's Tears by Rosemary Edghill got borrowed from a friend, and the concept is one that should at least be cute... library student in New York meets elf. But there's something about this writer's style that just irritates me, and I can't quite figure it out: the writing is not nearly as pretty or clever as it seems to think it is. Oh, and elves that speak Ye High Olde Elven Tongue get on my nerves.

It's silly of me to discuss books when I'm twenty pages into them, rather than when I'm finished, I know. But I'm very, very bad at finishing books, and much better at beginning them.
