Addendum

There are a lot of Leonard Cohen songs that aren't "Hallelujah."

Because I'm a bad Canadian, I mostly only know the more popular ones, but "Suzanne" is heartbreakingly lovely, and there's "Anthem" and "Tower of Song" and "Famous Blue Raincoat" and. And. I mean, the guy has been making music since my mom was a teenager, and he's still going. His first book came out the year my mom was born. It's a little embarrassing for me that so many nerds are hearing that song this weekend and thinking it's a bad cover of Jeff Buckley...

YOU ARE FROM CANADA??

Yup. I moved to the states when I was eleven (and then went back to Montreal for undergrad), so I've lost my accent and it's hard for me to continue considering myself culturally Canadian... hence the "bad Canadian" thing and also why this doesn't always come up.

Except we in the Great White North know the truth and will gleefully claim you as ours when you become Internationally Famous (which should happen in, oh, July of 2010 is all goes according to plan).

You haven't lost your accent, dear. You've lessened it, but those of us with an ear can pick up yer furriner jabbering. :-)
