This is SO 20th-century.

For months I had been longing for more new computer books for our library. Especially mid-level books: not Computers For Total Idiots, but also not about something as advanced as programming languages. Office? Oh, yes, I needed books on Office. And Excel perhaps most of all.

Today a book arrived at the library.

The It Girl's Guide to Becoming an Excel Diva. It is exceedingly pink. It instructs you to cultivate hobbies and take good care of your skin. It is also quite a good Excel book.

Because girls apparently can't learn anything unless it's packaged in language about shoes and boys and shopping. And pink.

But I have to admit, the real reason I'm annoyed is that this is our ONLY good book on Excel. And one of these days some real macho guy is going to come up to me and ask me for a book on Excel, and I'll have to say, "You're not going to like this, but we do have one..."

What a weird combination! I can see a how-to guide on make-up telling you to take good care of your skin, because the two practices go together! But using Microsoft Excel? WTF! Maybe they assume anybody using Excel has bad hygiene.....

HAHAHAHA, that'll teach them to package it in pink!
