Ew because of difficulty or ew because of subject matter? (A passage for a translation competition is squicky? How very strange.)

It's the subject matter that's squicky; the despicable main character and his dysfunctional love triangle, and far more detail than I really need--plus the fact that I have yet to write a single half-decent non-fade-to-black sex scene in either translation or original fiction, and this is decidedly not the best place to start.
