The Darn Book
With 18000 words left to go--more or less--I've figured out what's so horribly wrong with the ending--I sent two people off to do something, and it turns out, I sent the wrong two people, which I only found out because of the vague sense of outrage I got when I read the forgotten passage over again. So now to rip things out at the seams and salvage what I can...
Ah-hah. The problem is that I need that guy in two places at once, which means I need to stretch things out a little bit so that he's in two places but not at once. Which potentially leads to more salvageable stuff than I originally thought, just so long as I can recruit another character for something sufficiently interesting.
(This really is like playing chess, you know).
