Japanese seems to have the equivalent of l33t-speak, called gyaru-moji ("Gal characters"). How it works (Japanese page, naturally). Interesting that it's associated with girls in Japan (I guess?) when 1337 is so associated with male gamers. The Japanese article I found about it says that it's associated with cell phone use, so in that context it's not too surprising.

Also of interest is a brand new site at oshiete.goo.ne.jp (Also Japanese only) which will answer questions for you.
