A Venn Diagram: Why do conservatives hate Citi Bike so much?

My love for bicycles completely overrides my rabid dislike for Mayor Bloomberg and my even more rabid dislike for his nanny-state "health" initiatives.

(But I don't think I'll be a Citi Bike user, because I live too far south for there to be any stops near where I live, and I have two bikes already, it's just that it's too much of a hassle to carry them down the stairs, and I've been spooked out of riding in New York.)

I was pretty excited that they were extending the local bike share to my neighborhood (where I think they should have been at the start, because of certain major tourist attractions!), but then I tried one. The saddle is hugely uncomfortable for me. The ride was kind of like something out of Futurama: "She's built like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro!" Heh. I'm just picky because my own bikes are soooooo well-fitted, I think, and even my vintage 3sp is sprightlier.

Our bikes look very similar to the Citi Bikes. Actually, most of the bike-share bikes I've seen look like that; I wonder if they are all made by the same manufacturer?
