This is not a "What are you reading now" post, but...

Why is it always when I'm on the LAST FEW PAGES of a SAD BOOK in a language that requires A LOT OF CONCENTRATION that some random dude wants to come up to me and badger me about my ability to read Japanese?

("Penguin Highway" by Morimi Tomihiko. I am happy that this book is a weird magical-realism science-fiction not-quite-romantic-comedy about the joys and limitations of science, and exploration, and research -- and unhappy that it does so in a way that so completely privileges the agency of the main characters over the female ones. Someone please translate it into English so I can argue about it with people.)
